During the panel “The World in 2036: Where Will Portugal Stand?”, held as part of O Jornal Económico's 10th anniversary conference, Ana Madsen, Professor at Católica Porto School of Business and Economics, highlighted the need for Portugal to assess the returns on public and private investment more rigorously and focus on higher value-added economic activities.
The conference took place on 7 October at Alfândega do Porto, bringing together experts to discuss Portugal's challenges and development prospects over the next decade.
“I really like the word 'return'. It is a word that, in Portugal, our politicians and our economy are allergic to,” the economist stated, emphasising the importance of evaluating the results of investments.
Ana Madsen also stressed the need for the Portuguese economy to grow at a faster rate than Europe's major economies in order to narrow the gap between Portugal and the wealthiest countries in the European Union.
